TGIF!

I am so ready for the weekend! This week flew by, but was a bumpy one for me!
It took me three days just to make a grocery list and I just started the shopping part yesterday! To complete my shopping I have to shop at three separate stores because I cannot purchase everything in one place! We checked two off the list yesterday and should complete our shopping this evening at the last store! "Ugh!" (<----said in my best Gwyneth voice) My car is at the dealer having repairs (under warranty thank goodness) ALL day today, so I am car-less... Had the most horrible encounter with a very rude man at said car dealer this morning. Put me in a funk for a few hours. On to more positive things... here are a few things that make me HAPPY today:
  • a pork roast slow cooking in the crock pot in preparation for my Grandaddy's FAMOUS BBQ treatment! Every year at Christmas my Grandaddy pit BBQ'd a hog. His BBQ sauce was out of this world, and TOP SECRET for many years. My mother got the recipe and shared it with me a few years ago. I cannot wait to eat this yummy stuff! My mom gave me tips on how to adapt the recipe to home cooking.
  • homemade pizza dough rising away in the bread machine. It is Pizza Night. It will be our first ever "Homemade Pizza night." I plan on making our pizzas every Friday from here on out! I got all the fixin's for pepperoni (Gwyneth's), Hawaiian (David's), and veggie (mine) pizzas! I'm also going to use some home made spaghetti sauce (Grandmother's recipe-which my Dad makes every time I am home) for the pizza sauce.
  • talking to my mommy on the telephone! (yes, I said Mommy it's been "that" kind of week :o) I have managed to talk to her more this week than the last three months combined. Every time I have called her has been perfect too! She's either just sitting down to take a break, or packing, and welcoming the distraction. (They are moving the end of this month to a house they just bought in North Carolina.)
  • laundry that is almost done! No 8:00pm folding for me! I hate when I let the laundry go and have to do it that late in the evening!
  • looking at these sitting on my scrap table. Recycled Blooms (found in the March 2007 issue of Parents magazine.) We made them out of the many empty toilet paper rolls I just knew I would find something to do with! Oh, and the "vase" is an empty grits container that I covered in pretty patterned paper with Modge Podge! They just make me smile! They were such a fun craft, and involved recycling! Always a good thing!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Scooby-Doo

It's decided...Gwyneth has chosen to have a Scooby-Doo themed birthday party! We ordered all the items needed for the special day. (Oriental Trading Company to the rescue!)

Some of the items include:
  • A Scooby-Doo Pinata
  • Scooby-Doo goody bags
  • Scooby-Doo cups, plates, and napkins
  • Scooby-Doo mylar balloon
  • red paper confetti

I have the honor of preparing a Scooby-Doo shaped cake. (Wish me luck!)

Since Mommy hasn't been able to get her act together until now, we are not having her actual "Birthday Party" until April 7th. Allows time for the delivery of the party items and inviting guests.
We plan to play some pretty cute games too, and each girl will also paint a butterfly suncatcher!

These parties are just going to get more and more involved aren't they?! Lord help me! I am SO not an entertainer!
THANK YOU MOM! For putting on such great parties for us as kids! I now know how much stress and planning was involved, but then again you have always had the knack for entertaining! You are the queen of hospitality! Too bad I take after Dad...

they make everything better...

chocolate chip cookies, that is...

Making some this morning.

Having a rough start to our week.

I had to take away Gwyneth's T.V. privilege yesterday. No T.V. all day today! (Lord give me strength! ha!) She was having some attitude issues and I spent literally a half an hour in the car with her crying and carrying on! (Very unusual for her! And very nerve racking for me!)
This all happened while David went to meet a guy who is selling a truck. He parked Gwyneth and I in the NAPA Auto Parts parking lot and took the truck for a joy ride. He did not return for half and hour! Neither him nor I thought it would take that long! This was during dinner time too so we were all starving...well Gwyneth and I. David was so enamoured with this truck to really notice!

In other "uplifting" news:
We have become victims of the ARMY's wonderful pay system! Back in December they, unbeknownst to us, overpaid us...$238.83. (You have to be paying REAL close attention, especially during a PCS (move) for discrepancies like this. Lesson-now-learned!)
Drop in the bucket for them...not so much for us, especially when they take every penny of that out of one paycheck! Hmm...gotta love it!

I hate being so negative, but I just have to vent sometimes!

On a lighter note: here are a few favorite photos from this weekend!

Mmmm...

Making our first loaf of bread in my new bread machine this morning. I'm anxious. I hope it turns out o.k.
This machine is a little different from my former one. It has two kneading blades, and so many cool features.
I'm in love...♥
I chose an Italian Herb bread. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Oh, and all of you bakers out there...would you like to share some of your favorite bread machine recipes? I'm a beginner, so I don't have any bread recipes to share, but I'm sure I could dig up some of our favorite non-bread recipes to swap with you!

Sweetest Little Five Year Old

(who will be six in 11 days!)

I had been on the phone with David this morning, and when we had finished our conversation I realized I hadn't heard Gwyneth for a little while. As a parent, you automatically assume that silence means something is terribly wrong...
Upon finding her, this is what met my dis-believing eyes! My sweet little girl had went into our bedroom and folded the load of laundry I had dumped on the bed earlier! I was shocked! She did an amazing job!

This morning she also prepared a morning tea party for the two of us. I love this little girl!

Just something fun...

My sister sent me this a while back and as I was cleaning out my email folder I thought I'd post it here for all of you to try! It's pretty funny!

How Smart Is Your Right Foot?

This will boggle your mind. And you will keep trying it at least 50 more times to see if you can outsmart your foot. But you can't!

1. While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles with it.

2. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction!

27 *Edited*

Yesterday was my 27th Birthday...getting close to 30. I've always been excited to be in my 30's. It seems most individuals have figured out life by then...of course some are still as confused as they were in their 20's. We'll see what my 30's bring soon enough...
David helped me make my pineapple upside down cake the night before.
Dad R. sent me a beautiful card with some birthday money, so I put that together with some of our money and got a bread machine! Mmmm...homemade bread, pizza dough, jams...
I received a few other cards in the mail, one from my dear friend whom I have never met, Alice. Alice is David's best friend's mom, or David's "Mom #2". She is a very sweet woman. Since David and I got married, she has never misses a birthday or anniversary. She ALWAYS sends a card! When Gwyneth was born she was included in Alice's thoughtfulness. She never ceases to amaze me with her ability to remember important dates in our lives! I hope I get to meet her one day!

My childhood BFF (Amy) sent me a lovely handmade card with a very sweet personal note inside! We don't keep in touch nearly as often as we did when we were younger, but she will always be a near and dear friend in my heart! I pray for her all the best in life, and hopefully we'll make it to Idaho someday to visit!
Gwyneth, on her own, without any help or prompting from Daddy, made me a very sweet birthday card. She put it in an envelope and wrote "Happy Birthday" on the front. I was so touched that she made me something on her own! It will be displayed on my bulletin board for a while!
When I went to bed last night, I found a very sweet homemade card from David sitting on my nightstand. He told me that he wanted to buy me a card, but I am ALWAYS with him. He actually tried to buy one while we were out the other day, but shopping separately. I foiled that plan when I finished all my shopping before him. :o)

*Since the only note included in the package simply stated "Happy Birthday!" I assumed who sent what! My mom actually sent the pedicure set and four of the packages of brownies. Rachel sent 10 packages of brownies! So sorry I got it wrong! :o)*
Perhaps, the most thoughtful and amusing gift I received was a box stuffed with Walmart Great Value brand brownie mixes (14 total) from my mom, and a pedicure set from Rachel!
We LOVE these brownie mixes, and since we do not have a Super Walmart here we can no longer buy them. They mix up so easily and fit perfectly in my Pampered Chef Mini Bar Pan! These little packages bake up just enough brownies for our little family!
My mom remembered and sent me more than enough to last a long time! THANKS mom! I am certainly making a batch today! And Rachel, I shall enjoy this very cute pedicure set!
